Hybrid Air Flight Vehicle

http://lava360.com/30-breathtaking-future-city-concept-art/
BIG BRAIN BREAKTHROUGHS
HYBRID AIR FLIGHT VEHICLE FOR CITY TRANSPORTATION

IS SHORT TERM AIR FLIGHT THE NEXT LEAP IN CITY TRANSPORTATION?

A new vehicle is being designed for a completely new concept in city transport. Available only for specific already-conforming cities, the HAF vehicle can use one of two modes of transportation as decided by its on-board computer.

For years, man has anticipated the use of a personal plane for transport, and this difficult-to-construct craft has challenges of power, safety, regulation, management, environment, maintenance and other factors not easily met. This is why the personal airplane in every garage is not yet a reality after hundreds of years of dreaming.

The reason HAF is successful, is that it combines both short term land flight and ST air borne flight. The computer calculates and anticipates the free space and then proceeds to best utilize it, choosing from either short term land or air modes.

The differences, in transport terms, between land and air modes in regard to calculated pathways, is not appreciable. This means current infrastructure in place are entirely suitable. The small elevations from land mass is also not appreciable and not subjective to FAA or other airborne regulatory committee actions and laws.

The HAF can vastly increase the efficiency and timely nature of transport by using the hop method in going from land travel to air travel in a fraction of a second. The computer calculates LOS line of sight, LREVs left or right entrance vehicles and will undoubtedly use a level of anticipation or artificial intelligence to determine "next move" scenarios, thus maintaining maximum safety and avoiding accidents.

HAF is still a human driven vehicle, yet one that can currently integrate with a modern big city traffic society.

Construction Lab

INTRODUCING THE CONSTRUCTION LAB
EXPANDING BIG BRAIN SCIENCE LABORATORY - introducing the construction laboratory
Look what's looming over there! Giant pieces of proto wood lumber, hardware, huge motors, hinges, electronic controllers, wheels, gears, cables, cogs, belts, pulleys, springs, chains, sprockets, axles, pillow blocks, bearings, idlers, step downs, steering mechanisms, cables, brakes...

NEW REQUIREMENTS
The inevitable has finally happened. The next expansion of the Big Brain's lab is fully under development. The cause? Work on the new City Transport Vehicle has captured interest of everyone and now a new requirement is creating a construction lab - a place where work on large mechanics can happen, along with testing various new concepts, a cache of designs and constructing new prototypes.

CONSTRUCTION LAB
The Construction Lab will need the infusion of more power tools and will also need to include an expansion of space. Space, at least this type of lab space, is really rare and at a premium on the tiny island. We can build up or try to find more lateral space, or do a hop skip move that's not too far away.

TEMPORARY LAB
One concept we're introducing is the Temporary "put up and take down" laboratory. One is more apt to "loan out" some space for lab use in this manner and provide agreement arrangement. It represents extra work in hauling tools and materials twice during the day, once to the lab and once from the lab.

LAB IN A LAB CONCEPT
Another option is the Tiny Space concept. A tiny space is utilized, within the domain of another function space, and working from various nooks and corners and keeping tools stored in various available places.

CITY TRANSPORT VEHICLE
The City Transport Vehicle has many potential uses - for example, it could serve as an alternate energy vehicle run by the stored energy from ocean waves and can be autonomously driven by the on board Big Brain super computing machine. Another use is the likely transport of humans to and from various lab sites and to act as a prototype test machine for future developments. At this point in time, the vehicle is land based, although short range air flight is being studied. Air flight could be the next leap in city transport.

Intergalactic Space Control Panel

http://blog.modernmechanix.com/intergalactic-space-control-panel/

From December 1952, Modern Mechanix

Go retro using wood and old parts with this project - the deluxe electrical toy for junior space travelers.

Try searching with Google on space control panel to see many fascinating varieties of instrumentation control panels for your next futuristic project.

Remember when electronics project DIY cabinets were made of wood?

Of course a much safer and more inexpensive circuit could be made with a 1.5 volt AA battery and LEDs.

For interest, take a look at the pictorial to find a car fender curb feeler. When was the last time you built one of those?! After some head scratching, read the article text for the full explanation...

The article text says, "Note the automobile curb feeler. This is hooked up to a buzzer and looks like a miniature antenna. Touching it of course causes the buzzer to sound—only when its switch is “on.” Such secondary switches are a constant source of delight to a boy and his friends. Sometimes the buzzer will work and sometimes it will not, depending-of course upon the switch position."

Brain & Universe

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HUMAN BRAIN AND THE UNIVERSE?
Scientists have discovered links to both small worlds and large worlds. Breakthroughs in Cosmology show the Universe is held together with the invisible Dark Matter and Physicists are now showing a connection between the infinitesimally small Quantum world and the ultimately large Universe. It may come as no surprise to see this discovery image showing the similarity of the interior of a human brain cell and the interior of the Universe. It appears now we need to make a big decision in our work and studies: Microscope or telescope? In some instances of study, a microscope is insufficient - it cannot see things in the Quantum world directly. And in some cases, the telescope is not enough - it thus far has not penetrated the great cosmic barrier at the edge of the Universe. While we don't know exactly what existed before the birth of time and space and we don't know the origins of the Quantum dimensions, it's likely we will learn more about these fascinating enigmas in the years to come.

Propeller Chip NG Spacecraft

BIG BRAIN CHOOSES THE PARALLAX PROPELLER CHIP FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF SPACE CRAFTS

Keeping both BASIC Stamp for rapid proto developments and taking on the Propeller chip for advanced operations development is the current plan initiated for the Ultra Space Program and the Ultra Space Administration.

Temp Spacecraft Tcraft

BIG BRAIN DEVELOPS THE TCRAFT - TEMPORARY CRAFT IN SPACE

The Tcraft is a type of space craft, lofted into space, that can temporary function. This is an amateur hobby program to create a low cost space craft that can reside in space for a finite amount of time.

Designs are varied, including the drop craft (gravity operated), the glide craft (rides on a tenuous surface of air), the self pro-pulsed craft (carries an on board engine), the elemental craft (makes use of surrounding elements for propulsion), and the externally fueled craft (driven by fuel beamed directly to the craft).

Suspension Space Vehicles

EXPLORING SPACE WITH
SUSPENSION SPACE VEHICLES
Early days - Micro Space Program lofting experiment startup

The Big Brain's space program already has created a number of craft to explore various types of space. Many of these were invented for Micro Space and Next Space. The realm of space, from Micro Space to Near Space inclusive, has ideal conditions for the invention of a new craft - the Suspension Space Vehicle.

There are many types of forces in outer space that can act as a suspension upon a space craft. In particular the Big Brain's outer space program is interested in pressures formed by tenuous molecular air, conditions of wind, and water vapor.

Step one was creating the new type of satellite. Step two was creating ultra light spacecraft. Step three introduces the concept of lofting, where air pressure can loft and/or suspend a satellite or special craft. The early days of lofted craft tests and experiments have now led to actual Suspension Space Vehicles or SSVs.

Lofting is a technique of using atmospheric pressure, or other means, to suspend and balance a space craft to keep it operating longer at a particular region of space. The region may be Micro Space, Next Space, or Near Space. SSVs now include special satellites, a new propulsive technology, and specially designed vehicles to navigate and stay longer in the region of space.

SSVs may loft and suspend for specific intended periods of time, for observations, or for measuring the gradients of various space strata. In some examples, there is no way of knowing beforehand, the amount of time the SSV will remain in suspension.

Some causes of suspension, or contributors of this intervention, may include magneto measurements, or special aerial imaging of the Earth, Moon, or planets, etc.

Early tests and inventions leading up to the SSV included the following:

December Space Launch 2

BIG BRAIN SPACE LAUNCH 2
SETS HIGH ALTITUDE RECORD!
Capsule atmospheric pressurization and heating is required at this altitude
BIG BRAIN REACHES INTO SPACE The second space launch took place during December, on December 8, 2012, and reached the highest altitude ever set by the Big Brain space program (manned), extending into Near Space well above the 6.7 mile mark (when Photo 1 was captured).

PRELIMINARY DATA
Temperatures were -46 degrees F. while accelerating at 600 miles per hour during re-entry. Data will undergo analysis over the next two weeks. Eighteen instruments carried aloft were the same as on the December Flight One lofted earlier.

THIS IS THE CONTINUING AND UNFOLDING SAGA OF THE BIG BRAIN'S MACHINE GROWTH WITH ITS REACH INTO OUTER SPACE.. Stay tuned as we continue to explore hobby space and pave the way towards more remarkable things...

IMAGES
The first digital image (above) was taken at ISO80 and f5.6 at 1/1000 second exposure, showing the Earth and a heavy cloud base. The second photo was taken at 3:02 pm, later in the flight, and shows the "eye" of a massive cloud weather front.

SPACE TECHNIQUES
Big Brain trips into space thus far are all relatively short suborbital flights. Human trips made into Near Space are more complicated, expensive and require more safety. One approach is to lease a launch vehicle. There are now many private companies (not run by the government) that can offer space time. Leasing can sublet safety and control, parts, design, and engage a ride aboard a system with many bugs worked out. This can save time, effort and money. Time and development revenue saved can go towards expanding the space program. As space programs evolve to explore deeper into space, cooperation can improve safety, cut time, and offer a path higher and deeper into the cosmos.

Looking up into the atmospheric launch hole
WHO OR WHAT CAN EXPLORE SPACE?
Big Brain has at least five types of outer space exploration programs. The first program is in Micro Space and makes use of recruited insects known as insectronauts. The next level of space, known as Next Space, utilizes humans currently coined as astronauts. NS astronauts can hitch a ride aboard the worlds greatest Mega Project, for example, in China. The next level after Next Space is Near Space, also employs human astronauts. Going beyond farther and farther into space, we find Solar System Space, and Deep Space, explored by machines. For Big Brain Space studied, machines have explore 5 levels (Micro Space, Next Space, Near Space, Solar System Space, and Deep Space). Machines include Big Brain's telescopes, supercomputers and various machines (like the QuadLyzer), and use of NASA provided space junk, for reuse and recycle.

Button up. Would you jump out 7 miles high with -50 deg. (and -200 wind chill)?
DATA & ANALYSIS
The third photo is processed. Clouds are part of a four month continual seasonal weather front. This flight confirms that -50 degrees F. and the chill factor of rushing wind require cold protection for both human and robotic space flights. It also shows that a powered and controlled "slower than NASA" re-entry is capable of eliminating the need for a heat shield. This flight also examined the water content and vapor above the record setting height of 7 miles.

The LU technique is used during every space launch. When peak altitude is reached, a look up approach can study the next mile or so of space. During this launch, LU discovers various strata conducive to specific space craft.
Three weather gradients become obvious at this altitude
It proves there remains considerable water, at least enough to form heavy cloud cover, and vapor at that height. The flight also shows considerable weather gradients where vast clear strata regions exist above and below fronts. What was found inside the strata is remarkable.

Large Earth span from the A2 vantage camera approaching 40,000
APPLICATIONS
Speculation shows science stations and "Near Space satellites" could be placed within these stratas for protection. The strata itself may be conducive to flying special lofting craft. This opens up the possibility of light weight, ultra light "Lofted Science Packages," designed to stay aloft with longer time periods based on air pressure, wind forces and air directions. Also studied is the placement of tethers for space craft, space stations, harbors of scientific equipment and sub-orbital satellites, and great refueling stations and observatories. Exampling tethered BTs, or balloon telescopes can free drift image the solar system such as the Earth, Moon, or study the cosmos above most of the atmosphere. These flights pave the way for next science.

December Space Launch One

BIG BRAIN SPACE EXPLORATION
DECEMBER SPACE LAUNCH ONE
During flight: "Near Space" Spacecraft rises miles above Earth based clouds. Image study reveals four zones of atmosphere.
BIG BRAIN has authorized numerous space launches to explore the territory known as Near Space. These are the concluding two December launches for the remainder of 2012. The highest Big Brain budget is currently for space exploration.

Big Brain has a robust Space Exploration Initiative, exploring nine different types of space (see chart). Thus far, the Big Brain has launched humans into Near Space but not beyond. Exo Space and Quantum Space are currently explored with theories and ground based experiments.

There were two Big Brain initiated successful spacecraft launches and landings during December. The first spacecraft launch journey into near space on December 8 reached about six to seven miles in altitude above the Earth. Data collected and flight information recorded included aerial photography, date and time, temperature, relative ground speed, and altitude. Eighteen instruments were lofted. With the exception of the thermodynamic readings, instruments were kept in a heated and pressurized capsule. Data is currently being analyzed. Summary reports, conclusions and updates will appear within this blog in the futures as they become available.

http://humanoidolabs.blogspot.tw/search?q=prime+directive
The Big Brain has embarked on one of the grandest scientific journeys though the deepest dimensional regions of space and time, and has issued the Prime Directive for the ride of a lifetime. We dare you to open your mind, fasten your cosmic seat belt, and join in, sharing this real ultimate mind bending and expanding exploration!

This flight marks the fourth documented trip into space and the third journey made by a human. The first flight launched Insectronauts by rocket in 2011. http://humanoidolabs.blogspot.tw/2012/10/journey-into-next-space.html

Aerial image captured shortly after launch depicts rain conditions and ground rapidly moving away. Still visible are man-made structures and rivers.
Initial takeoff conditions were rainy, overcast, drizzling, with 100% relative humidity. These conditions were unimportant as the flight, within minutes, would transcend above the weather.
High altitude aerial image transcended above the weather at a large clear zone in between two vast cloud layers
The 150-minute in flight daytime trajectory was above Asian air space from East to West. During flight, the thermometer spanned from about +64 at take-off to -30 degrees F. at the higher altitude approaching the upper 6.8 mile range.

Two immediate non-craft flight data computers were used, one for seventeen instruments management and one for the camera.

Approximate Space Flight Cost Analysis
2.5 Hour Flight on December 8th
Transport to/from Launch Site $70
Space Craft $900
17 instruments $450*
Aerial Photography Equipment $500*
Management Resources $400
Water, Food $27**
Subtotal $2,320.00
*cost for amortization
**not included

The combined payload weight was around 420 pounds. This is about $5.53 per pound of payload launched into space. It equals a cost of $15.47 per minute of space travel. While space launches for Insectronauts into
Micro Space is free, from available recycled components, launching a man into space is considerably more critical, complex, time consuming, and costly. It also involves complicated scheduling that must be followed by numerous divisions. By comparison, NASA shuttle flights were at a cost of  $4,729  to $10,416. per pound. This is one thousand to two thousand times more expensive than the Big Brain's flight cost (and involves orbital space). See links for details and flight differences.

DISCOVERY
This flight lays the foundation for defining the upper atmospheric limits and confirms the validity of launching and landing during rainy weather conditions. It studies the height and characteristics of weather strata and marks important information necessary for both manned and robotic exploration. The Aerial Photography Program shows definitive atmospheric layers. It shows a stratus in between varying weather dynamics. Confirmed are temperatures at various altitudes are correlated to atmospheric densities based on the APP. The flight sets parameters for both manned and unmanned exploration at these altitudes and immediately beyond. The Big Brain seeks to discover weather patterns and details in the upper atmosphere and lower limits of space, primarily for potential space craft design, flight and navigation. As a reminder for this program, space craft can hoist tethers, various astronauts, scientific equipment, temporary satellites, data collection devices, mapping of atmosphere imaging equipment, and additional "for release" spacecraft.

Temporary Satellite TSAT

BIG BRAIN INVENTS THE TEMPORARY SERVICE SPACE SATELLITE TSAT
A space satellite can hold a space telescope with 3-inch or smaller optics and observe lunar terrain above the blurring effects of Earth's atmosphere for more clear imaging and study. Having your own Amateur Satellite is mind expanding learning experience that can raise the know-how level of your technology.
Large TSATs could adapt QuadLyzer BASIC Stamp
Homework boards or similar components
DEFINITION
A satellite is defined as an artificial body placed in orbit around the earth or another planet in order to collect information or for communication. The Big Brain has extended this definition to include suborbital path.

SATELLITES
One aspect in the Big Brain Space Program Initiative that could use more development is that of satellites. Years ago, the author's Amateur Space Telescope was developed as a satellite to be hoisted into orbit by the US Space Shuttle with the NASA GetAway Special Program. Satellites are expensive to create, launch, and maintain in orbit. Big Brain has found a way to bypass these complexities and cost, by introducing the temporary service satellite or TSAT.

Solar study with TSAT is possible
TSAT TYPES
There are two types of Big Brain invented TSATs. One is lofted during the Next Space Program and provides data and services during the loft. The next type is the Dropped TSAT. This will provide data and services during the trip from space to the Earth.

TSAT FLIGHT
The TSAT is launched from space and allowed free flight. TSATS can be free fall, gliding, resistive, or have powered flight.

SUBORBITAL
The difference of a TSAT and an orbital satellite is the TSAT is mainly suborbital at this time.

TIME IN SPACE
The amount of time the TSAT remains in space for use is based on a number of conditions, such as the amount of time of free fall, wind resistance, height of release, air pressure, atmospheric re-entry parameters, etc.

LAUNCHING DOMAINS
TSATS are currently capable of launching two space domains - both Micro Space and Next Space.

TSAT APPS
TSATS have use for exploring space, understanding the conditions of atmosphere in lower space, and it can serve to bounce signals or act as a launch platform for other space craft. A TSAT can hold special payloads like a Temporary Space Telescope or TST.

WORLD RECORDS
The TSAT may indeed have the smallest suborbital flight in history. For Micro Space, the suborbital position down-range can be measured by a few feet. For Next Space, based on conditions, the distance can range to several city blocks. Anything launched higher is dependent on additional conditions and the satellite can end up considerably farther down range.

TRAJECTORY
TSATs can go up by various means and drop back to the Earth. Part of the TSAT project is to maximize the satellite's time spent in space. This may include lofting based on the Jet Stream, slow lofting through special gliders in Near Space where a tenuous atmosphere exists and a slowed reentry based on a parachute, streamer or other aerodynamic means.

TSAT FUNCTION
TSATs are generally lofted and dropped in Micro Space and Next Space, providing a temporary service during their reentry trip to the ground.

LOFTED TSATS
Another type of TSAT is one that only goes up and records data and provides services within this range. Thus far, the Lofted TSAT service is provided during the Next Space Program.

TSAT COST
TSATs are relatively inexpensive. Consider, the Big Brain space exploration initiative is many things and always growing and expanding in knowledge, design, and discovery. On aspect is the creation and invention of new designs and crafts that function in space. Being a bare bones cost space exploration program, the Big Brain can offer a ride into space from a cost range of free in Micro Space, to $12 for Next Space, and $5.53 per pound of payload to go up into Near Space.

Big Brain City Transport

BIG BRAIN URBAN TRANSPORT INITIATIVE
BIG BRAIN SEEKS TO DEVELOP NEW URBAN TRANSPORT
Can a multi hybrid urban Emcycle design hold a very large Brain?

We don't know why exactly but the Big Brain is seeking a means of transportation in the big city and looking to create some methodical city urban transport.

This is possibly for an autonomous application or perhaps to more readily find local parts for the needs of a scientific brain conducting experiments.

The transport could also assist in initiatives that construct various scientific projects, and research. It could simply supply the day to day needs of a hungry Big Brain. Whatever it's up to, it looks very interesting.

Follow along as this project unfolds into something that could affect the future of personal transports!

1st step: tiny blueprint
The first step was the research initiative that has comprehensively explored the designs of tens of thousands of cars, motorcycles, scooters, bikes, trikes, flying machines, skateboards, and alternate transport vehicles. Included in this study are future designs, artistic visions and far thinking hybrids. A hybrid may be a half mix of car and bike. The Emcycle design, for example, is part motorcycle, part tricycle, and part car. The trike design employs a third wheel with two wheels in a side by side config. This takes up considerable space on pathways with some obstructions, compared to inline transporting, so we're saying this design is only one possible reference for study.

Three wheeled city transport design looks interesting
What criteria should a personal transport vehicle include? This is a rather large question. The answer to this varies depending on the local laws and conditions, and the needs and requirements of the intended purpose.

Some climates are mild year round and some have fierce winters. Some cities are highly congested and some less populated areas are less crowed. This will dramatically affect the designs. Here's the base list of criteria established by the Big Brain Urban Transport Initiative.

Small car steering: wheel, joystick, handle bar
LEFT: Concept car design shows suggested interior

The interior layout may end up with a completely different design, especially in the cargo area and sizing proportions. A design this small would likely have significant changes, with steering located in the center, for example.

Note the bottom pedals for human power. Spartan doors open upwards to enable access within minimal space environments. Each door has a reason for being open on the bottom, to facilitate human feet to protrude and access the manual human-powered pedals.
