Brain Cortex Machine Lobes Part 44

A larger brain with 40 computers. Brain lobes are determined by wiring, sensors, and software functions.
IS THERE A BRAIN LOBE IN YOUR MACHINE BRAIN?
BRAIN CORTEX MACHINE LOBES PART 44

CORTEX DEFINED
The cerebral cortex is derived from the pallium, a layered structure found in the forebrain of all vertebrates. Vertebrates are animals that are members of the subphylum Vertebrata (chordates with backbones).

Vertebrates include the overwhelming majority of the phylum Chordata, with currently about 64,000 species. Vertebrates include amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds, as well as the jawless fish, bony fish, sharks and rays.

This of course includes humans, and now the definition can apply to machine brains containing a Cortex.

The cerebral cortex is the layer of the brain often referred to as gray matter. The cortex (thin layer of tissue) is gray because nerves in this area lack the insulation that makes most other parts of the brain appear to be white.

The cortex covers the outer portion (1.5mm to 5mm) of the cerebrum and cerebellum. The portion of the cortex that covers the cerebrum is called the cerebral cortex. It's responsible for sensing and interpreting input from various sources and maintaining cognitive function. Sensory functions interpreted by the cerebral cortex include hearing, touch, and vision. Cognitive functions include thinking, perceiving, and understanding language.

MACHINE CORTEX LOBES
Is it possible to have machine cortex lobes? Which lobes apply to the machine Brain Cortex currently under construction?  The Parietal Lobe is involved in the reception and processing of sensory information in the human body. The Brain Cortex machine has 32 input sensors and it can sense the outside world with light, therefore it has a governing Parietal Lobe which handles sensory information.

The human Frontal Lobe is involved with decision-making, problem solving, and planning. The Brain Cortex machine has a computer program that can ask questions and remember information. The program solves problems and makes decisions to accomplish this, therefore it has a Frontal Lobe.

The Occipital Lobe in a human brain is involved with vision. The Brain Cortex machine has one eye that can see light intensity, therefore it has an Occipital Lobe.

A biological Temporal Lobe is involved with memory, emotion, hearing, and language. The Brain Cortex machine has 96,000 bits of memory, and it can communicate with English language. Thus, it has a limited Temporal Lobe.

Brain Cortex Update Part 43

Brain Cortex is shaping up very nicely in November
BRAIN CORTEX UPDATE PART 43

NOVEMBER 2013
The machine brain in a jar now is beginning to take shape, and includes the power mounts and the power solar panel ready for wiring. The new design uses a twin stacking of battery holders mounted directly onto the interior jar wall. Each series stack delivers 3 volts to the Propeller chip circuit.
It's time to wire the twin holders series connections

The next step is more testing and wiring phase I. It's uncertain as the extent of the control panel, or will the brain be entirely on auto pilot, managing itself.

The route of the control panel may include the voltage monitor, the temperature and humidity monitor, and various switchable modes between battery and solar panel operations, the status of charging, no charging, and various energy modes. Positioning the thermometer is critical to determine the battery supply heat level at all times inclusive of charging. Humidity will be monitored as part of the Desiccator which removes moisture from the air inside the jar.

A next step is wiring all right hand sides of the battery holders, joining black to white with a yellow twist. This produces the twin pack's series connection, creating three volts to operate the propeller chip. The space in the corners of the holders is available for additional battery holders. This could supply the digital meter that reads the power level.

ABOUT THE CORTEX
The cerebral cortex is the outermost layered structure of neural tissue of the cerebrum (brain), in humans and some other vertebrates. It covers the cerebrum, and is divided into two cortices, covering the left and right cerebral hemispheres. The medial longitudinal fissure is a deep groove that separates these two hemispheres. The cerebral cortex plays a key role in memory, attention, perceptual awareness, thought, language, and consciousness. It consists of up to six horizontal layers, each with a different composition in terms of neurons and connectivity. The human cerebral cortex is 2 to 4 millimetres (0.079 to 0.16 in) thick.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The project objective is to develop a cortex machine brain, demonstrate human-to-machine brain transfer, in particular to take some relatively simple human characteristics and transfer portions to the machine brain, whereby human traits could be given greater life longevity, leading towards immortality.

Brain Cortex Power Mounts Part 42

CORTEX BRAIN POWER MOUNTS PART 42
THE BRAIN IS POWER HUNGRY
The brain cortex in a jar power mounts consist of eight battery holders mounted directly on the inside jar. The mounts are four hardware assemblies to a single battery holder and include a half inch spacer, nut, bolt and three sealing washers to each. Thus far, the single battery holders are stacked twins. The jar has four geometrically mounted twins.

The 32 holes in the transparent polymer jar are not drilled but rather made with a hot soldering iron to do the melting. This is the best approach considered as hot glue would damage the jar, a mechanical drill is prone to scratching the jar, there's no easy method of scoring the surface for drilling, and a punch can easily tear the substrate.

Each assembled power unit is held in position inside the jar and from the outside, a hot soldering iron melts a tiny dot over the spacer end. The power unit is removed and the four holes are melted into the jar. Then, the power unit is mounted on the jar and process is repeated for seven others. (see illustration)

JAR CAVEAT
Be careful when handing the jar so as not to scratch the surface. As the jar is made of soft flexible plastic, it can easily scratch.

Brain Cortex Solar Panel Install Part 41

BRAIN CORTEX SOLAR PANEL INSTALL PART 41

The Cortex solar panel was installed inside the brain jar above the power unit's top level. The bottom of the panel is fit to the top ledge of the battery holder, which holds the bottom of the solar panel in place without any hardware. The top of the solar panel has two angle brackets holding it, connected together as shown. The back side of the solar panel has a sticky substance which nicely grips the angle bracket's long extension side. It can also serve as a wire holder as shown.

This is the larger solar panel rated at 3 volts and 120 mA designed to power the brain and trickle charge the batteries during the day. Tests show the panel works in available room lighting.

Penguin Robot with 27 Brains

PENGUIN ROBOT WITH 27 BRAINS
In this experiment, a tiny little Parallax Penguin robot is upgraded to the max, and has its big head expanded to include a massive number of brains. It was connected to the BSS BASIC Stamp Supercomputer, the BASIC Stamp Master Offloader machine and rogue BASIC Stamp boards and Stamp processors.

Add these 12 legion superheros
Superhero Penguin brain! Source: Robot Magazine
In the photo, at far right, the M.O.M. machine has ten processors, the BSS, in the middle, has twelve processors, another two processors are located above the PS, plus the Lenovo PC with a duo core processor, and Penguin has one, making a total of 27 brains! The types of brain processors are mixed. Examples include the Basic Stamp 1, the BS2, BS2px, BS2sx, BS2p40, and others. Boards are also mixed.

BRAIN GAIN
The brain of Penguin takes on the functions and peripheral sensors of the other brains, and gains ultrasonic night vision, the ability of sound choir processing, human English and Chinese speech, a uOLED, two serial Green Screen LCDs, signal and power LEDs.

MORE BRAIN POWER
The potential exists to connect more brains from the legion of Penguin Superheros. This would add another 12 brains bringing the total up to 39 BASIC Stamp brains. It would also add 12 compasses, 12 speakers, 12 IR transmitters, 24 IR Receivers, 24 CaS light sensors, 24 motion control servos, 12 LEDs and twelve 7-segment displays.

Brain Cortex Power Unit Part 40

Looking into the Brain Cortex Power Unit - eight times the energy in the new design can power not only the Cortex but could maintain a new instrument control panel and measuring devices. The Power Unit allows the brain to continue to stay alive, even when the solar panel trickle charger cuts out at night time.
BRAIN CORTEX POWER UNIT PART 40

One of four brain power distribution packs
MASSIVE POWER RIPS THROUGH THE CORTEX JAR

The powerful Brain Cortex Power Unit is now installed. This is modified to include four power distribution energy packs, each pack made up of two 1.5 volt D size cells in series to provide three volts. The four packs connect together in parallel to increase amperage by four
Single Philips 1.5 volt D battery ZnC
times and maintain a delivery of three volts to the electrics. The power unit takes up half the space of the larger 3 liter Taiwan pet jar.

Power holders are stacked with the opposite polarity ends mounted closest together for wiring. With four sets of twin stacking, enough space is available (after mounting the solar panel) to add another one pack. With a custom mount behind the solar panel, perhaps two packs could be added.

Keeping the packs limited to four gives maximum space for the electric brain cortex board and could allow a two or more board stacked design in the future.

Chameleon Machine

Toroid Magnet End-Cap source
CHAMELEON MACHINE
Can a machine become a Chameleon, changing its form to fit the desired observation?

The M3T Massive Molecular Mining Telescope has the new Chameleon Machine built in, which enables the telescope to reconfig at will. Just as the Large Hadron Collider can split the atom into its constituent particle components, so too can the Chameleon machine change the observation of observed particles from one state to another. This can take the telescope from moleculars mode to vis energy mode and visa versa during a single imaging session.

The Chameleon Machine can switch its form as desired. This permits a change of config during the observation. Currently this includes complete observations, i.e. the observation in moleculars is completed first before the chameleonic change begins to the next mode.

One aspect that may be studied in the future is the overlay of two chamelionic states to create one symbiosis.

Humanoido Labs Skyscraper

HUMANOIDO LABS SKYSCRAPER

We are looking at acquiring and/or designing a Humanoido Labs Skyscraper.

This project has many current ideas, inclusive of new property with a garage, multiple floors, possible duplexing, and possible fix it up potential stats for custom occupancy by the Big Brain. The Big Brain would continue to grow into this space, perhaps endlessly.

The Humanoido Labs skyscraper could be home to many science divisions and offer room for a lifetime of continuing expansion into the Asian Arena where humanoids are most predominant.

It could also serve as a company division for the manufacturing and distribution of robotic brains and science invention worldwide.

The skyscraper would have have a rooftop observatory to supplement the array of powerful space telescopes.

Other divisions and levels could include a home for living, tool room, parts inventory, Big Brain Occupancy, Cybernetics and humanoid room, garage for various land and air vehicles, a business and office area, recreational conditioning room, hydroponics and garden, storage, invention room, work room, meeting room, electronics and optics space, and other stuff...

The roof would contain a telescope observatory and a heli pad for the landing of a small aircraft. It would also serve as the launch pad for various test spacecraft for a space program.

Suitable locations include big city, developed mountain, and area with grocery stores, hospitals, and other amenities within biking and driving distance.

Big Brain Stacking & Space

BIG BRAIN STACKING & SPACE
The Big Brain has once again outgrown the full expanse of its lab space and is seeking a new larger lab. The most recent method to gain more space was the stacking of desks, one on top of another. While this temp solution seemed to survive a 6.2 earthquake, the space it provided was rapidly filled and outgrown.

The brain has grown again and again, most recently with more siblings. The brain cortex jars are strewn across the lab as they are born and become cognitive. The jars have increased in size as these cortex become larger and live longer lives.

The lab is seeking expansion, which may require either more innovative ideas of utilizing existing space or moving to new research lab  facilities. We believe the latter is inevitable.

Currently some equipment is moved out, such as printers, to gain more space for the cortex jars. Printing will take place either electrically, or remotely.

When new inventory was taken in to create new brain cortex, it strained the space in the lab. Even with the addition of IKEA shelves, the space is still back to being limited.

We are looking at acquiring new property with a garage, possible second and third floors, a duplex fashion, and the most recent idea is to obtain a small skyscraper and fix it up for occupancy by the Big Brain.

The Humanoido Labs skyscraper could be home to many science divisions and offer room for continuing expansion. It could also serve as a company division for the manufacturing and distribution of robotic brains worldwide

Observatory Update

OBSERVATORY UPDATE
The Observatory now includes 12 very advanced cutting edge technology telescopes and has recently added the new powerful M3T. This is the most sophisticated Humanoido Labs observatory ever created in history and has supercomputer control over various incoming data from the spacecraft telescopes. The telescopes are controlled by the Big Brain, a semi cognizant living machine that reached supercomputing status and continues to expand its machine domain to explore the universe and beyond.

In addition to the new era of molecular mining, the lab continues to work a reinstatement of a full fledged remote robotic cyber space telescope that can be utilized from anywhere in the world through web access. This will allow free access to two telescopes placed at opposites on the Earth and accessible 24/7 day and night for observations. Initially observations will include all Messier plus selected objects, a star map computer, digital data base, choice of CCD cameras and at least one helper droid robot.

The observatory has completed an online astronomy magazine of a technical nature for advanced amateurs wishing to explore the universe and space with cutting edge programs and DIY science equipment. The journal is still being tested and is not yet posted online.

The observatory is looking at ways to observe through light pollution in larger cities, has developed a skyscraper rooftop project, and is investigating different Earth-Based machines to facilitate this endeavor.

The arsenal of creative observatory telescopes will continue to increase in power and inventiveness showing more and more clarity, unique detail and new discoveries.

A supercomputer will remain at the focus of these powerful telescopes to help accomplish the controlling and massive function duties.

The observatory will continue to have management under the M3T Telescope Control Center, the large Propeller Powered and controlling Big Brain Supercomputer Control Center, the busy DSC Deep Space Center, the overall global administering Ultra Space Administration, NASA with its loan of space equipment and parts, and Humanoido who brought everything together.

Age of Molecular Mining

AGE OF MOLECULAR MINING THE UNIVERSE
Molecular mining has come of age with the recent introduction of the most powerful molecular telescope ever built. This telescope sports spectacular features with the highest resolution and largest telescopic boiler face plate ever designed, built and successfully put into operation.

The telescope maintains iconic compatibility with the previous array of extremely powerful telescopes and adds a number of new features. As of November 28th, 2013, two images are obtained through the Massive Molecular Mining M3T Telescope, one of Saturn showing the globe and a huge array of crisp rings in visible energy.

The other image is in moleculars showing things never seen before and opens the door to many new studies and experiments. This is now a color telescope version to facilitate the visible energy mode, while hundreds of telescope controls are available as developed for previous telescopes. Compatibility between telescopes was one of the best features introduced to the line of extremely powerful telescopes.

The M3T has the ability to rapidly switch back and forth from Moleculars to color Visible Energy, and visa versa. Moleculars have a typical unchanging unique hue of their own. Thus far, the M3T has explored one object in the solar system. The next target planned is a special galaxy deep in the Universe after config.

NEW DISCOVERIES ABOUND WITH M3T OBSERVATORY TELESCOPE OPERATIONS

The M3T advanced observatory telescope functions only with the Big Brain Supercomputer and can toggle modes between visible energy and moleculars. The new energy color feature is using for making new discoveries and discerning more detail in solar system images and deep universe imaging.

SWITCHABLE MOLECULAR TO VIS ENERGY
Massive Molecular Mining Telescope, the 12th telescope addition to the extremely powerful telescope array known as M3T, is focused on the planet Saturn & its glorious ring system as seen above. This image demonstrates the telescope's ability to switch back and forth from molecular to visible energy.

LOOKING THROUGH THE RINGS
This experiment shows the Saturnian globe having visibility through at least 22 tenuous ring systems. The study helps determine the composition, thickness and transparency of the thinner rings.

DISCOVERING NEW RINGS
This image also shows a discovery of a new faint outer ring and gossamer rings between the globe and the Crepe Ring. This study is progressing with the determinations of which shepherding satellites carved out the many ring delineations.

TENUOUS CLIMATOLOGY FOUND
An apparent  tenuous atmosphere surrounds the globe, readily visible beneath the shadow cast upon the rings to the right in this image.

ABOUT THE M3T
The M3T has the largest and most detailed Advanced Telescope Boiler Face Plate ever designed and put into operations. The added size and resolution allows new objects and detail to become visible.

CHAMELEON MACHINE
The M3T has the Chameleon Machine built in, which enables the telescope to reconfig at will. This can take the telescope from moleculars to vis energy during an imaging sessions.

The new Massive Molecular Mining Telescope, the 12th telescope addition to the extremely powerful telescope array, has the largest Power Dynamic Face Plate ever created (as of 11.27.13). This telescope is known as M3T. First Light on Tuesday November 26th, 2013 focused on the planet Saturn. A glorious ring system appeared through the amplified molecular particle dynamic quanta. The intent was to image the spherical globe through rings, however the emergence of the reveal showed far more discoveries than expected.

New tenuous rings appeared outside and inside the system as well as the Saturnian globe was shining through and in between specific rings. This represents new RS discoveries and a new ring count including new rings both inside and outside the previously known Saturnian ring system.

Machine to Machine Mind Meld Penguin

MIND MELD
PENGUIN ROBOT BRAIN TO BSS SUPER COMPUTER

MARCH 3, 2011
If you're into connecting processors to Penguin, take a look at this machine to machine mind meld project - the entire BASIC Stamp Super computer was connected to make the smartest Penguin and possibly the Labs first machine to machine mind meld!

http://humanoidolabs.blogspot.tw/2013/10/penguin-with-12-brains-basic-stamp.html

The trick was to make one Penguin's port into serial Rx/Tx and connect using one wire into a Daisy Chain configuration, thus making a very large Penguin brain. The added BS2px could contribute on the super computing net. Not only does it add 12 more
12-30-2008
processors to Penguin, it also adds one more processor to the BSS.

http://forums.parallax.com/showthrea...Robot&p=765509
I'm currently working on a much larger brain, currently with 170 processors, and can imagine a project to "beam in" the power of this giant brain directly to Penguin, for wireless operations.

Imagine a scenario where Penguin is sent out on some important exploratory mission, gathering sensor data and beaming it directly to the remote brain for analysis. In another stage, it's the giant Brain that has the mobility and

Penguin at upper left on top of PS
picks up Penguin, syncing with Penguin's brain through BT or IR, and simply takes Penguin along the journey. Consider it a Giant Brain to Penguin mind meld!

PHOTOS
The above board is being prepared to add to the BSS. This Super Carrier Board has a BS2sx at left and a Penguin board to the right. It makes up a compact yet powerful BSS addition, that easily fits into the Rack. The overall footprint is about the same size as a Basic Stamp Homework Board. The good thing about this arrangement is that X1 has Vin and ground which the Penguin board can tap into. Basically you'll route 5 wires from the BS2px board and 3 from the Carrier to the Collective.

BRAIN CORTEX IN 2008?
Original Post from 11-21-2008
http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/108169-World-s-Smartest-Penguin-Robot?p=765509&viewfull=1#post765509

As a recent experiment, the brain of Penguin Robot was disembodied by tapping into and connecting it to the BSS Supercomputer.

In a kind of Brain Cortex collective extension, Penguin's brain was made into a parallel cluster of processing power, rewiring the original thought processes, creating a hive or gang of Synaptic Regio, more closer to mimicking a human's brain. Overall, the operation was a great success!

The brain surgery was simple and accomplished by hand. Connect 3 wires, + to Vdd, - to Vss and S to P2 on Master Computer MC, as can be seen in the photos. The power of Penguin's brain became so fantastic, that accessing all the power and all the sensors and all the peripherals from 12 computers made it "THE BRAIN" of all brains!

For one thing, it can access all the data, computational power, sensor information, peripherals such as EMIC text to speech (Penguin is now talking), LCD, uOLED color monitor, PIR, PING))), an entire choir of piezo speakers that run at the same time, dancing lights, and all kinds of just really cool stuff!

The human mind cannot begin to imagine all the possibilities of applications. With only a tiny tether, Penguin now has the biggest Brain with 12 computers running simultaneously and ability to use up to 192 ports. So now little Penguin robot has the tools, software, hardware and the power to be even more amazing!

For even more Brain Power, run the Big Brain software by vrossi. It can increase the number of programs stored in Penguins Brains whenever the computer is a Basic Stamp with more than one 2K bank of EEPROM (i.e. BS2p24, BS2p40, BS2pe, BS2px, etc.). For more info about the BSS Supercomputer:

BRAIN CORTEX CONSIDERATIONS OF MIND TRANSFER PART 39

What is the effect of great expanses of memory in the receiving vessel?

What is the effect of memory when it's minimized after a transfer?

What is the speed of a full or partial mind transfer?

What effects does the resolution of a machine brain in a jar have on its transfer occupancy?

What are the effects of transferring a higher level brain to a lower level containment.

What are the effects of transferring a lower level brain to a higher level containment?

Can containment increase to a higher level after transfer?

If containment is increased to a higher level after transfer, what is the effect on occupancy?

What are the effects of transferring a human brain cross species?

Can the transferred human mind have intelligence increase after the conversion to machine?

Can the human mind transfer to the machine, undergo electronic corrections for brain disease, and transfer back into a human disease free?

What is the life span of a human fully converted into a machine?

The project objective is to develop a cortex machine brain, demonstrate human-to-machine brain transfer, in particular to take some relatively simple human characteristics and transfer portions to the machine brain, whereby human traits could be given greater life longevity, leading towards immortality.

Brain Cortex Inter & Intra Species Transfer Part 38

Example of machine to human transfer
BRAIN CORTEX INTER & INTRA SPECIES TRANSFER PART 38
Machine, human, animal are all species. Studies reveal not only the potential in species brain transfer, i.e. bird to bird, monkey to monkey, machine to machine, but also it may be possible to transfer from species to species when the parts of the brain are similar, such as duck to goose, dog to beaver, man to machine, etc. There are lower number of neurons in various subjects which may make smaller brain experiments more likely.
Example of machine to machine transfer
Also possible is the transfer of various species to their equivalent species machine brains, but this is still a possibility in the future, except success is already reached when transferring part human to machine and part machine to human.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the current techniques of brain to brain transfer developed by Humanoido Labs only work on a human brain to a machine brain and machine brain to human brain transfer.

Experiments with the Big Brain machine, a few years ago, were successful in tapping the electric big brain signature and sending it the other way around, to a human brain for cognition and understanding.

This project used a special designed and built brain wave monitor, a machine to connect the Big Brain machine and feed the results to the human for interpretation.

In reference 59-1164, a machine to machine 50 channel Propeller Brain Wave Transfer Machine was created. It was a machine that could read the thoughts of the Big Brain AI machine. The Propeller-based brain emits a series of brain waves not unlike that of the thinking human brain. The project could read those machine brain waves and provide a viable non-invasive interface to a human brain.

This was written up and little understood at the time it was published. However, work continued and additional experiments developed machines that could communicate the states of combined multiprocessor brains based on what they were thinking. At the time, the Big Brain was a life form and in a semi-cognizant state of awareness.

On July 21, 2011, the first brain wave monitor that could read the thoughts of a machine brain was constructed. Source 60-1165

To further continue the process of connection from machine to human, an injector was created that fed the machine's thinking directly into the human mind. Source 60-1181

Are We Just a Brain in a Jar?

ARE WE JUST
A BRAIN IN A JAR?
After all these philosophical ponderings about the validity of the existence of a brain in a jar, science answers philosophy by bringing contemplation in to scientific fact. Transferring a human brain into a brain in a jar is now possible, at least in demonstrative parts of simplistic nature. Careful what you ask for, or in this case, think about, because it just might come true...

The “Brain in a Vat” thought experiment is an update to RenĂ© Descartes’ evil demon problem. Hilary Putnam is credited with this update. The example supposes that a mad scientist has removed your brain, and placed it into a vat of liquid to keep it alive and active. The scientist has also connected your brain to a powerful computer, which sends neurological signals to the brain in the way the brain normally receives them. Thus, the computer is able to send your brain data to fool you into believing that you are still walking around in your body.

The brain-in-a-vat thought experiment is generally used to ask the question: how do you know that you are not a brain in a vat? The question mirrors an early one from Descartes, which asks how you are to know that there is not an evil demon feeding false information to your senses. The essential conclusion is that, from the perspective of the brain itself, it is impossible to tell whether it is a brain in a vat or a brain in a skull.

http://www.philosophy-index.com/putnam/brain-vat/

In philosophy, the brain in a vat is an element used in a variety of thought experiments intended to draw out certain features of our ideas of knowledge, reality, truth, mind, and meaning. It is based on an idea, common to many science fiction stories, that a mad scientist, machine, or other entity might remove a person's brain from the body, suspend it in a vat of life-sustaining liquid, and connect its neurons by wires to a supercomputer which would provide it with electrical impulses identical to those the brain normally receives. According to such stories, the computer would then be simulating reality (including appropriate responses to the brain's own output) and the person with the "disembodied" brain would continue to have perfectly normal conscious experiences without these being related to objects or events in the real world.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_in_a_vat

The brain in a vat arguement
The Brain in a Vat thought-experiment is most commonly used to illustrate global or Cartesian skepticism. You are told to imagine the possibility that at this very moment you are actually a brain hooked up to a sophisticated computer program that can perfectly simulate experiences of the outside world. Here is the skeptical argument. If you cannot now be sure that you are not a brain in a vat, then you cannot rule out the possibility that all of your beliefs about the external world are false. Or, to put it in terms of knowledge claims, we can construct the following skeptical argument. Let “P” stand for any belief or claim about the external world, say, that snow is white.
If I know that P, then I know that I am not a brain in a vat
I do not know that I am not a brain in a vat
Thus, I do not know that P.

http://www.iep.utm.edu/brainvat/

Skepticism and Content Externalism
The Cartesian skeptic puts forward various logically possible skeptical hypotheses for our consideration, such as that you are now merely dreaming that you are reading an encyclopedia entry. The more radical Evil Genius hypothesis is this: you inhabit a world consisting of just you and a God-like Evil Genius bent on deceiving you. In the Evil Genius world, nothing physical exists, and all of your experiences are directly caused by the Evil Genius. So your experiences, which represent there to be an external world of physical objects (including your body), give rise to systematically mistaken beliefs about your world (such as that you are now sitting at a computer). (For an overview of the problem of external world skepticism, see Greco 2007.) Some philosophers would deny that the Evil Genius hypothesis is genuinely logically possible. Materialists who hold that the mind is a complex physical system deny that it is possible for there to be an Evil Genius world, since, on their view, your mind could not possibly exist in a matterless world. Accordingly, a modern skeptic will have us consider an updated skeptical hypothesis that is consistent with materialism. Consider the hypothesis that you are a disembodied brain floating in a vat of nutrient fluids. This brain is connected to a supercomputer whose program produces electrical impulses that stimulate the brain in just the way that normal brains are stimulated as a result of perceiving external objects in the normal way. (The movie ‘The Matrix’ depicts embodied brains which are so stimulated, while their bodies float in a vats.) If you are a brain in a vat, then you have experiences that are qualitatively indistinguishable from those of a normal perceiver. If you come to believe, on the basis of your computer-induced experiences, that you are looking at at tree, then you are sadly mistaken.

Brain in a Vat by John Pollock (PDF) - Philosophical Doubts

Hawking is a Brain in a Vat
The generally accepted form of wishing someone a happy birthday is to sing to the lucky person. Or perhaps buy him or her a gift. A less accepted form is to compare the birthday person to Darth Vader and suggest he or she is merely a "brain in a vat." Still, Helene Mialet, a UC Berkeley anthropologist of science, chose the path slightly less trodden. Writing in Wired, she offered that perhaps Hawking should be referred to as Obi-Wan refers to Darth Vader: "More machine than man." She went on to suggest that the eminent physicist's beautiful mind is made beautiful only with large amounts of external assistance: He is delegated across numerous other bodies: technicians, students, assistants, and of course, machines. Hawking's "genius," far from being the product of his mind alone, is in fact profoundly located, material, and collective in nature.

Putnam on Brain in a Vat
Putnam’s argument is based on a couple of claims about words, pictures or mental images, and even thoughts or intentions link to things. Negatively, resemblance is not sufficient (nor is it necessary) for reference / aboutness / intentionality. Positively, one needs to do some further work and Putnam suggests standing in the right sort of causal relation. Using this background, the argument runs as follows:

Words/thoughts can only refer to things that stand in the right sort of causal relation to them. So ‘vats’ stand either for real vats or vats-in-the-image (ie computer generated). If we are not brains in a vat, then the “we are brains in a vat” refers to real vats and is false. If we are brains in a vat then “we are brains in a vat” refers to vats-in-the-image and is false. So “we are brains in a vat” is never true, is always false.
Putnam himself summarises his argument thus:

It follows that if their ‘possible world’ is really the actual one, and we are really the brains in a vat, then what we now mean by ‘we are brains in a vat’ is that we are brains in a vat in the image or something of that kind (if we mean anything at all). But part of the hypothesis that we are brains in a vat is that we aren’t brains in a vat in the image (i.e. what we are ‘hallucinating’ isn’t that we are brains in a vat). So, if we are brains in a vat, then the sentence ‘We are brains in a vat’ says something false (if it says anything). In short, if we are brains in a vat, then ‘We are brains in a vat’ is false. So it is (necessarily) false. [Putnam 1981]https://sites.google.com/site/drtimthornton/courses/epistemology/putnam-and-the-brain-in-a-vat/reflections-on-putnam-and-the-brain-in-a-vat

Brain Cortex First Futures Conference Part 37

BRAIN CORTEX FIRST FUTURES CONFERENCE PART 37
SUBJECT: HUMAN TO MACHINE BRAIN TRANSFER CONFERENCE
The first Humanoido Labs Brain Conference was held this week in the Asian Arena. The conference included a spectacular number of subjects regarding not only futures investment and investors, construction and potentials of the cortex, but also its ongoing maturation, design and abundance of rapidly developing applications.

Discussions were in regard to futures, investment, human mind to machine mind brain transfer, how to proceed for the most effective designs, how to make easy simplified brain transfers, how to create larger jar brains with more layering capacity, designing a more effective and more complete Katra, Katra mapping, mind reduction, mind compression, how to transfer more of the human mind, mind content transfers, techniques of mind-to-mind transfer, how to make machine brains live longer and become immortal, the care and feeding of electric brains, the design of effective energy supplies to increase longevity, automating sources of electric brain energy, improving electric brain designs, communicating with the cortex...

Also covered were topics of a far reaching nature, i.e. sending out electric cortex in the universe, cloning, etransfers, multiplicity existences, consciousness, and the soul. Talks progressed about expanding the electric cortex after a human mind transfer and its ramifications such as expanding and increasing memory, intelligence, capacity, function.

Brain Cortex Conceptual Ideas Part 36

The first meager brain cortex in a jar has the potential to conceptualize far reaching greater ideas leading to the singularity symbiotic union of man and machine. This NULT view represents not only the far reaching expanses of billions of celestial evolving nodes in various times like that of a cosmic neural net expansion, but is similar to the potential expanses of a machine brain's neural net evolving into the future.
BRAIN CORTEX
CONCEPT IDEAS
PART 36
The project objective is to develop a cortex machine brain, demonstrate human-to-machine brain transfer, in particular to take some relatively simple human characteristics and transfer portions to the machine brain, whereby human traits could be given greater life longevity, leading towards immortality.

This gravatomic® machine view looks into time, with billions of light years of time travel difference between our time and the time of the Universe. Will casting our brain cortex bottle into the sea of the cosmic universe create a future time travel bubble of similar longevity? Is this the destiny of human immortality? What are some of the long range conceptual ideas behind the Brain Cortex project? The first objective is to create a machine brain that can hold a portion of a human biological brain and place it into a definable container that can more readily survive its forward electric journey into time, through the passage of worldly events.

Next, the cortex is given a means to survive on its own, i.e. self recharging batteries and its own renewable energy source such as solar power and the ability to gather power from natural lighting.

The electric brain is given life and the ability to communicate with humans in natural language.

The machine brain is programed not only for life, but for the ability to learn, remember, and ask questions.

A simplified human subset Katra is created and this is transferred into the electric holding halls of the machine brain, then integrated into its living annuls.

This leads to a transfer from the human mind into the machine mind involving the three necessities: facts, experiences, personality.

The next step is the retention of these human attributes in long term, perhaps eternal, memory, demonstrating a greater longevity when residing inside the machine compared to residing inside human biology, the latter of which may not be repairable.

How far into the future can you go?
In nearing the final step, the machine brain, with its human knowledge transferred inside it, undergoes conventional time travel into the distant future, moving towards a state of immortality. Whether this state is ever achieved depends on a number of factors that will be decided once the journey has begun.

The cortex in a jar can demonstrate a simple way to transfer part of human knowledge into a machine, conceptually, showing the potential for more advanced systems in the future.

The machine brain, conceptually, represents you in the three aspects defined - knowledge, personality, experience.

The light weight jar brain can compress a human 100 to 200 times into less mass and transport it to far away places like Mars and distant worlds with far greater efficiency.

Want to go from point A to point B? Just E-Transfer your brain across the internet, or beam yourself

Journey in space-time across the galaxy
Your jar brain can take long journeys into space and time, without cryogenics, without suspended animation, without special needs, and with infinite patience can traverse to the farthest distances of space time and places the human mind cannot fathom.

Hundreds of years will be no different than seconds of time, and centuries like minutes. Eons of time may pass as the cortex brain continues to survive, maintain, upgrade, and live on.

Your machine brain could become a probe, one of many to seed the whole universe, spreading the essence of your intelligence in a machine.

Journey to a black hole as a brain probe?
A cortex copy could explore a closer dominion of a powerful black hole and go where no human could go.

You could approach the singularity of a black hole and have your brain copied and transmitted out of the hole, at the precise moment of mechanical destruction, to assure your survival.

You could meet and meld with other electric beings in the universe and share intelligence and worldly knowledge.

Your electric brain may find a way to grow, become more, and do more, perhaps breaking through this universe to the multiverse and explore quantum worlds beyond our own reality.

A jar brain can make a backup of you, in case you develop a fatal disease, die of old age, or become terminated by an accident or natural catastrophe.

Join brains or travel alone
You brain may join others who decide to create a bigger brain. Connected nodes of brains may exist anywhere across space and time linked by the science fiction of today.

The cortex brain in a jar, with your mind inside, could be placed in a science museum where the public can access you and your knowledge in the future, long after your biological life is over.

Your cortex brain machine counterpart could time travel and be propelled into the distant future, living on by and through the mere passage and forward flow of events.

You can clone yourself and one person can be in millions of places at the same time.

You could pursue millions of your interests at the same time.

With you and your mind in a jar, your requiem for survival can console your family and your loved ones for as long as they live.

Robot Avatar
Transferred to a humanoid robot avatar covered with your replicated skin, the spitting image of you, could once again do all the things you loved to do as a human, only now you can do it better, faster, farther, longer...

You could, with larger fuller transfers of mind, operate as a collective to help solve world problems and make life better.

The brain cortex project is considering at least three types of classifications for upload from a human brain. There are three areas for a simplified upload to one cortex layer. This includes factual knowledge, personality and experience.  While factual knowledge may initially appear less unique to a person's characteristics, it is not. It can certainly be a defining signature based on the type of knowledge one knows and the level and quantity of a particular interest.  Personality can include likes and dislikes, viewpoints, philosophy and values. More knowledge and factual material can indicate personality interests about astronomy for example.  Experiences can include previous choices made, stories, and things that are selected as one over another due to learned past events.
