It now appears the most massive project will be the final leg in the race to create a full machine brain, one designated as a receptacle for the transference and conversion of a biological human brain. In order to transfer a human brain into a machine brain successfully, the entire human brain must be decoded. This massive project has numerous sub-projects to realize the final goal.

It must be possible to interface with the human brain and snapshot it, taking frozen instant polaroid-like images of all parameters in an instant. In the next subproject, the human brain must be decoded to a point where thinking, thoughts, and dreams can be recorded and played back on the machine brain. In all likelihood, the Big Brain machine is the best candidate from a vast component and capability perspective to volunteer as the machine brain receptacle for a human brain transference.

It's not just the thinking side of the brain per se that needs to be modeled in exact detail. There are speech formation centers for talking, mobility centers for moving, vision centers for eye control, a massive nerve complex, and numerous other vital facets to be completed. With a mouse brain consisting of 100 million neurons and a human brain on the order of 1,000 times that, the machine must handle 100 billion neurons from the human brain along with the required one quadrillion synapses.

All this presumes the identical nature of the biological human brain being exactly converted verbatim into its machine constructs. However, a machine brain may have some algorithmic processes incorporated to somewhat simplify the system. When you transfer your human brain over into a machine brain, are you the same person or a clone of yourself?

Philosophical questions and debates may occur when converting a human brain over into a machine brain. It may be possible to take a human brain and convert it into one machine brain, then take the machine brain to make as many clone brains as you want. Who is you and who is who?

Some will speculate the brain is your brain if the original ceases to exist. However, at the moment of transfer, the machine brain has its own set of experiences when compared to its human version or any other brain. Brain transfers could occur to the machine brain and the machine could be put into stasis. However, the human brain would evolve over time and create differences with the machine brain. In the case of brain disease, having a copy of the brain when it was healthy is desired. Maybe it will be possible to replicate a diseased brain and repair the machine version. It might be a good idea to have two of you as two machines. You can work together with your twin self. Your twin self could easily be put to hibernation ahead of time in the event that something catastrophic happens to you. As twins, you can do double the work in half the time. But who is who? Is the consciousness the same?
