COMPARE CONTROLS IN THE SPACE SHUTTLE
There are over 1,000 hardware and software switches, controls, circuit breakers, and computer displays in the Space Shuttle cockpit. These switches allow Astronauts a huge amount of control over the operations of the shuttle. Even if a shuttle crew lost all control with Mission Control immediately after lift-off, they would still have all the necessary controls to reach orbit and return safely.
