    January 2014 Update

The Lab's Christmas tree for the 12 days of Christmas is very small - only about 7-inches high. It's fully decorated with Christmas ornaments separately purchased. Many of the individual components were received as holiday gifts. There's a set of battery operated working colored lights on the tree and a flashing lights Santa nativity set. Tiny box gifts actually fit under the tree. it sets on the Lab's mantel top.
    JANUARY 2014 UPDATE
The new year has three major projects ongoing - 1) the Robot Explorer designed to explore new worlds, 2) the Brain Cortex in a Jar designed to transfer a small part of a human brain into the machine brain for greater longevity, and 3) the FM transmitter and radio station. Side projects include sending a man into space, developing humanoids and humanoid brains, advancing the deep space program with the new telescopes invented, and continuing to upgrade the Lab capabilities and facilities. Other projects include developing satellites, a new kind of flyable rocket ship design, and a possible major expansion of the current laboratory. There's also a push to develop custom test equipment and finish the radio station as it may be used as a wireless device for the brain in a jar.

FM Radio Station Broadcast Script Part 8

For FM radio broadcast testing, the green solid strand wire loop antenna was formed into a 1.75-inch diameter circle and soldered to the printed circuit board. The close proximity of the radio is for illustration only. The antenna and the transmitter are directional.
FM RADIO STATION BROADCAST SCRIPT PART 8
This is a list of broadcast script from the FM radio station on day 1 through 3 of part time operations. The determined test frequency is currently 102 MHz on the FM band.

    Monday December 23
Two days before Christmas, at 10:00 pm, the radio station was turned on for the first time. A nearby FM radio was scanned across several transmitter harmonics, then settled onto the strongest signal. It's a success! "Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3..." came in loud and clear on the small portable radio tuned to the FM band. This was repeated several times.

    Tuesday December 24
On Christmas Eve around 11 pm, this special transmission went out for holiday wishes and additional tests were completed. "Have a happy holiday and Merry Christmas." The script was repeated prior to running tests.

    Wednesday December 25th Christmas
At 1:00 am to 1:30 am, for tests, "Roger Rabbit" was repeated which verified the frequency orientation shift. For each Roger Rabbit, a new orientation and frequency shift was tested. Microphone positioning was established along with the notation of characteristics from human positioning. In particular, the coil is sensitive to human positioning and will need to be in a retracted position during future operations.

    Signal Propagation
Again, with a 1.75-inch green loop antenna, which is very cute by the way, we're not exactly sure who heard the signal other than ourselves in the Lab due to the given "in house" range.

    QSL Cards
If and when we are able to extend the range to another room, we'll think about making up a batch of QSL Reception Verification Cards for "send out" to our... er...  colleagues.

    Radio Station Name
Prior to the design of QSL cards, the radio station will need a name, something like Whisper 102 Radio...

    Broadcast Schedule
Later we will present the Whisper Radio 102 broadcast schedule for the New Year!

Brain Cortex Time Travel Predictions Part 13

    BRAIN CORTEX TIME TRAVEL PREDICTIONS
    PART 13

    by humanoido

FUTURES Looking forward to the year 3000, with longevity and perhaps immortality, what would you expect to see and encounter while traveling throughout time?

This is really all about the intelligent brain cortex machine, supplanted with your cognition, genes and engrams. It's about what events the cortex will see unfold when time traveling throughout the future slipstream of world events...

The chart shows only a more obvious subset of actual events and are only estimations and predictions of future happenings, i.e. their timelines may be shifted forward or backwards from the predicted dates, and cannot include the unforeseen or derivations of actual events that the cortex may see and experience. It's likely many of the listed event will happen much sooner as the chart errors on the positive side of time. The chart may be modified to increase accuracy.

    Big Brain 4th Year Operations

    BIG BRAIN 4TH YEAR OPERATIONS
HISTORIC PHOTO: the path to the original Big Brain tower is paved with Parallax Propeller chips.
Join us as we celebrate entering into the Big Brain's fourth year of operations and discovery! The fourth year began on August 5th 2013.

Our 1st post about the Propeller chip-based Big Brain was on August 5th, 2010, when Humanoido posed the famous question:

If you had a big brain for your robot, what would you put in it? I think some similarity to a human brain is good, for example, put in vision processing, memory, and a robot autonomic nervous system.
Ok, your turn, fill the brain..

ABOUT THE BIG BRAIN The Big Brain is now a thinking machine that was born from a small hobby project. By the year 2002, its design was expanded for several robots, culminating with multiple parallel processors placed in a humanoid. The objective was to create a living thinking humanoid robot brain of autonomous nature with a knowledge base.

The Big Brain has probed and dissected the inner space micro and nano scopic workings of its own Propeller chip circuits thus creating enhancements unbeknownst to the original manufacturing chip company.
Starting with one processor, it was realized that more power was needed, thus, over the years, it continued to grow with additional processors until it reached a very massive state around August of 2010 when it was switched to primarily Parallax Propeller chips.

Every year since that time, we've celebrated the Propeller chip birthing anniversary of the Big Brain. In three years, a lot has happened. The biggest milestones can be summarized by the Propeller chip era seen below.

    FIRST YEAR
2010 Birth (Design, Parts, Construction, Growth, Blob, Testing)

    SECOND YEAR
2011 Life (Software, Expansion, Speech, Sing, Dream)
2011 Semi Cognizant (Intelligence, Languages, Neural Net)
2011 Micro Space Program Begins (8-21-2011)

    THIRD YEAR
2012 Supertronic Enhanced (Increased Speed & Processors)
2012 Big Brain Runs Its Own Blog

    FOURTH YEAR
2013 Big Brain Conducts Massive Projects, Explores Universe

    Remember this famous post?

    One Year Anniversary Party
We're holding a One Year Anniversary Party for the Big Brain over the weekend. Everyone's invited!  I'm checking on appointments at the University of Technology to possibly see the new humanoids and also checking the Exposition Lecture agenda through the university where they host Brain research. Some interesting facts, the Big Brain is the largest Parallax machine ever built in my smallest lab. There's over 300 smaller machines built from the beginning of 2002 to 2011, a ten year period, so I could learn about putting together multiple processors. The first multi-brain was made from several Parallax Stamps placed into a humanoid robot built from Parallax Toddler robot parts. The Big Brain's official first post was on August 5th, 2010. The Big Brain uses Propeller chips. Out of respect to its heritage and to remain compatible with ten years of development, a BASIC stamp is designed into its Brain Stem. In building humanoid robots, they were consistently lacking in two things - a long lasting battery and a powerful brain. I wasn't interested in working with battery chemicals so I chose to develop a brain. The brain began by many suggestions from Parallax Forum members. The Brain has many supporting projects posted in the Brain thread. The most recent is a Brain Wave Monitor that can see and hear the thinking of Propeller chips. The Brain led to offspring, several smaller brains, even including a controversial two prop brain in a jar that won Parallax's Project of the week. The one year mark is time to reflect on where the Brain was, is now, and where it's going. It's not over yet. The journey has only just begun. It's more about the journey than the destination - the path we choose, the things we learn and develop along the way and the new friends we make. Stay tuned. I will continue trying new and unusual things, pacing the Big Brain, making some small discoveries, and growing the artistic, creative edge. There are future treats in store for those following along...

At the second year anniversary, the Big Brain machine's state was described.

    Propeller Brain Three Year Anniversary

In the beginning: Brain Stem with BS2 and Prop
    PROPELLER BRAIN THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

The first post made specifically for the Big Brain project was on August 5th, 2010, by humanoido. This led to a total of 1,763 posts which have received a total of 200,089 views at the Parallax site as of Monday, July 29th, 2013.

    1st Big Brain board
On January 3rd, 2012, the Parallax Forum was filled and no longer had space for Big Brain posts. The project was moved to its own blog site. The current blogging site has added another 525 posts. The new site was up and running shortly after January 3rd, 2012 and has remained in full operation through 2016.

The first posted photo of a Big Brain board was on December 21st, 2010 (see photo above). It shows the robotic Brain Stem which was constructed first. The Brain Stem handles the nerve sending ability for robotic motor and various motion control functions. It uses a protected interface that communicates between the 5-volt level of the BASIC Stamp and the 3.3-volt level of the Propeller chip. A serial software interface joins processors and enables inter-board communications. The Lab's first Robotic Brain Stem is created from Parallax processors and designed to communicate motion mobility commands to a Giant Brain. The HBP Hybrid Brain Processor is programmed in two languages.

At the 1st year anniversary, a celebration party was held. Below is a portion of the original post.

TeraFLOPS computing power just under PetaFlops."

For the 3rd year anniversary, it's become more challenging to describe all the programs conducted by the Big Brain Initiative.

Principally the Big Brain is doing its own projects which have become greater, more sophisticated and all encompassing. For example, a series of very powerful telescopes are now created, and numerous machines that can see with inference engines, molecular constructs, and gravity are in effect. The Humanoido Labs were internationally expanded to handle more of the Big Brain's work. Work progresses on a new Spin Brain and a manned space program has explored Near Space and deployed a Tiny Space Telescope. Recently a space flight was unexpectedly positioned above a rainbow and discovered that rainbows are shaped in a complete circle.

The Big Brain has already written a scientific paper, and has now progressed to writing a book about itself and Propeller circuits. The Big Brain was enhanced several times. The most recent added enhancements include Supertronic abilities and conventions. As of the third year, many of Big Brain's children, like Bit, have grown up. The Spin Brain is one example of a more mature brain.

The third year budget was greater than the previous two years, owing primarily to summing the increasing resources from NASA, related NASA agencies and continuing investments by Humanoido Labs to keep the Big Brain Initiative running. The largest part of the budget involves the overhead in keeping the Tropical Island Laboratory open and running, such as the cost in running and maintaining two air massive conditioners day and night used to maintain Big Brain operating temperatures within normal parameters, and the use of dehumidifiers and other equipment. Purchase of transportation this past year was also a priority to enable an immediate path to more expeditiously acquire Big Brain parts and related items.

Budget also involves continuing Big Brain projects like the human exploration of Near Space, space launches, acquiring equipment and adding on operations to include the Tiny Space Telescope, Radio Telescope and SETI program, test equipment and providing the time for additional operations, and Propeller and supercomputing R&D.

(The stretch of this time has analyzed black holes and looked at more dimensions beyond space and time, including the quantum arena, particulate entanglement, and numerous other effects.)

One continuing goal is to increase the number of processors inside the Big Brain, as the core density is directly proportional to the given intelligence level of the machine. The push is to lead from a processor density around 200,000 to one million in order to move from a semi-cognizant state to a fully aware state. The exact requirements to accomplish this are unknown at this time, and it's likely the Big Brain itself will be a part of the process in determining its own new state.

In a nutshell, three years of study and experimentation with the brain's propeller chip has led to more discoveries and greater enhancement. In the third year, the Propeller has moved far beyond its original specs, operates faster, can do more, and has more processors. It has more algorithms and has grown up to become a supercomputer, making discoveries about the Universe and beyond. It's now poised on horizon's edge of new science and technology. We cannot begin to fathom what will come next.

    New Year 2013 Spectacular

Creative pinwheel by Taiwan Masters is spectacular!
    NEW YEAR 2013 SPECTACULAR CELEBRATION!!!

You've never seen Taipei 101 like this before!!! - Welcome to Taiwan!!!

This year, Taiwan officials in charge of managing New Years fireworks at Taipei 101, one of the tallest sky scraper buildings in the world, came back with a spectacular display of fireworks, one so great - it defied the imagination!

The display solved the challenges from an earlier year when the great fireworks and amazing choreography ended up producing smoke which rose from the ground level upwards, and blocked out some of the fantastic fireworks shot and launched from the side of the 101 building.

Today, the new millions of dollars display, seen by crowds of millions of people at ground level, was ever more spectacular. Obvious visuals included perfect timing and position, as fireworks launched outwards in patterns with synchronization where the smoke quickly dissipated. The breeze was also cooperative and the weather was perfect, the brilliant Moon high in the sky to prove the excellent conditions.

For the multi-days holiday, it appeared that pollution completely vanished when the island's manufacturing plants, and possibly those located in Mainland China, shut down.

PHOTO 1 Take a look at our most spectacular introduction photo. Look carefully and closely about two thirds of the way up, in the center, where you'll see the dimly glowing two Chinese characters proclaiming New Year good luck. How this was master-minded so perfectly is beyond belief!

Nothing burned down, not like what happened in Mainland China the other year when a new skyscraper completely burned out, a fire caused by the abundance of amateur lit fireworks during Chinese New Year!

Taiwan is very regulated during the Gregorian Calendar's New Year and has a climate that's always damp and humid which helps create an evironment rather perfect for launching fireworks.

Note the creative pinwheel, Christmas Tree, spirals, colors and other remarkable shapes and displays, with impeccable calculated timing, spread, position, color, duration, intensity, contrast, and backed by a literal textbook of mathematics in motion producing great fireworks stature so precise that no one could have expected such spectacular results this year!

These are definitely good luck photos as my clock was 20 minutes early due to a run down battery. When I turned on the TV, fortunately I saw there was a countdown with only 24 seconds left to the New Years beginning.

I had to run and hurry to start up the camera. Unfortunately I had yet to take a movie with the new camera and could not find the setting. However, the still images still turned out great, imo, even though I had to brave the cold, standing outside on the deck in only PJs.

This deck has served as a platform for taking a few astronomical photos of star fields and selected objects (see previous blogs), and the brick building side was a good steady base when I remembered to use it.

Photo 2 shows the shape of a big Christmas Tree.

Photo 3 is one of the most spectacular with intermixed colors and shapes, which are glowing and scintillating beyond belief.

Photo 4  is a mind meld of real time spinning motion from bottom to top of 101, with a special rotating messages display (seen towards the top). This may also periodically show advertising sponsor messages and graphics. It took special processing to bring out the delicate contrast of these characters that were located behind the blazing fire and brimstone!

Photo 5 demonstrates the pinpoint accuracy of the charge placement.

Photo 6 shows a simultaneous multi-color display of spectacular proportions with parallel launching arches.

Photo 7 To see this spinning around, like a dazzling toy top in real time, is magnificent.

Photo 8 is the proprietor of many discretely placed fireworks charges all along 101 from bottom to top.

Photo 9 is an example of erupting color - a green mix predominance unlike anything seen before at Taipei 101.

Photo 10 is a final shot showing the 101 building as it appears to glow hot beneath the rising smoke after the fireworks had ended.

Photo 10: Taipei 101 looks hot & molten after fireworks!
